AN INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY FOR ALL HUNGARIANS WHO ARE

OF BRITISH UNIVERSITIES

about HABA

The Hungarian Association of British Alumni (HABA) is a non-profit organisation that caters to all UK university alumni in Hungary since 1994, in close cooperation with the British Embassy in Budapest and university-specific alumni groups. The Association was originally established for those who received scholarships to study in the UK, most importantly Chevening scholars. Now, it is open to alumni from all UK universities. Our members come from a wide variety of professional backgrounds, from energy industry to banking, academia, technology, marketing, law, and public administration. We have an active membership of approximately 100 people. In the past 20 years, HABA has been active in organising lectures, talks and social events, and undertook projects like the Visegrád4 project of knowledge sharing. Our Patron is His Majesty's Ambassador to Hungary, Mr. Paul Fox.

HABA
our MISSION

Our mission is to create an interactive platform for UK university alumni residing in Hungary. As the former association of Hungarian Chevening scholars, we aim to provide our members with social and networking opportunities, as well as acting as an advocate of British culture and values. We believe that having studied in the UK during our formative years has given us strong values to share. We are certain that it is not only a common nostalgic background, but has great unutilised potential.

MISSION

We organise four main events in a year that are either formal or informal opportunities to meet old and new HABA members. Besides these established thematic occasions, we also provide our members with one-off exclusive programmes and joint events in partnership with university-specific alumni organisations such as LSE Alumni Association Hungary and Cambridge - Oxford Alumni Club of Hungary. Registration is compulsory for all of these events and information is provided in due time via our newsletter and on our Facebook page.  If you would like to get notified about our upcoming programmes by email, please subscribe to our mailing list here. In the meantime, get a sense of our community by visiting our gallery of past events:

our BOARD

As the result of the Annual General Meeting on 20th July 2023, the Board of Hungarian Association of British Alumni (HABA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Júlia Véglesi as the new President of HABA, Zsófia Dombi, Máté Martin, Zoltán Marosi and Éva Sáfár as Board Members, and Ádám Czirják and Bálint Fehér as HABA Leaders in London.

The Board and Members of HABA are more than grateful to Elemér Gidófalvy for the distinguished role he played as the President of HABA between August 2016 and August 2023. Under his strong leadership, HABA’s community has been revived via the expansion of new activities and members, and HABA’s connections to the British Embassy and other alumni organisations have been tightened via joint networking events and public lectures. From now on, the Board is pleased to receive continuous guidance and advice from Mr. Gidófalvy as the Board’s Senior Adviser.
